Gerry is originally from Arkansas. However, her 30 year long career as a civilian with the Department of Defense took her to various assignments in New Jersey, Florida, Maryland and Virginia before retiring in 2006. She started quilting after retirement. That led her in the direction of retail as an outlet for her quilting projects. Now, she will quickly tell you that she didn’t actually retire; she only changed career directions – and a welcome change it was.
Canoeing on the Greenbrier River is one of Laura’s favorite outdoor activities, but at home it is making salves and candles with her children. After bringing her homemade skin salve recipe to the Pocahontas County Farmers Market she enthusiastically included pure beeswax candles to the business she named Gaia Blends. Enjoying the live music and atmosphere she is now often found at local festivals and on Snowshoe Mountain Resort.
Gaia Blends Skin Salve is made with only organic and natural ingredients. This uniquely smooth salve absorbs quickly, heals and can be used daily on hands, lips and feet. Handcrafted lotion bars, lip balms and pure beeswax candles are made in small batches and of the finest quality ingredients.
Lois Young lives here in Pocahontas County with her husband Dave and dog Buddy. She sews the most beautiful purses and handbags that have pockets in all the right places. Her potato bags are a must for a baked potato dinner. Sewing starts with the fabric and she has an eye for colors and patterns.
In addition to the sewn goods, ELY’s Soaps offer the best qualities of a moisturizing and sudsy bar of soap. She encourages you to “Smell My Soap” and offers a variety of deliciously scented and colored bars.
